Breve historial

“MY JOURNEY” 
I’m a music producer, with a unique style and flavor that has charmed many fans throughout the years with simplicity and mellow music.

Born to a poor family in the small village of LOMPELADO S.NICOLAU, Cape Verde, music did not have a history our family, however, my interest for music started at a very young age.

Since I would always be around people who played music, I tried to learn on my own by observing them playing. The minute a musician would put an instrument down, there I was grabbing it and trying to learn how to play it. Because of my persistence and love for music, I self taught myself how to play keyboard and a little bit of guitar.

Years later, I moved to Sal Island, where together with other musicians, we founded a band called HARMONIA. This was a surprise of many because they had never seen me playing an instrument before. From that moment on, I was getting invitations to be part of almost every band in Sal. At times humorous because it was almost a war between bands just to get me on the keyboards. This made me feel like a local superstar. At first it was hard to manage the invitations to perform, but I was able to play in bands such as DJA D’SAL, NEW BAND and later on TRIO SALGADO. With TRIO SALGADO we released an album named “10 ILHAS NA MAR”.

My very first experience in a recording studio was an amazing moment that words can’t describe. Suddenly, I started feeling like my dream of becoming a composer & producer could become a reality, but that wouldn’t happen until later. Meanwhile, by playing in different bands I was able to travel between islands and that’s when I caught the attention of bands like TUBARŌES, BULIMUNDO and FINAÇON, which later I would be part of, together with ZECA and ZEZE DI NHA REINALDA and musicians like FEEL BASS, ZE LECKY, ADAO (former Ferro Gaita) and VICTOR BETENCOUR. An interesting fact is that when you’re part of a band you have a tendency to start writing and composing your own music. I guess you could say that’s the reason I started looking into programing. By simply listening to composers like PAULINO VIEIRA, MANU LIMA or by recording my band rehearsals, I could reproduce the sounds later on the Keyboard.

Thinking back, I recall hearing my first recording. This is something I will never forget, almost like your first kiss. Those feelings are what drove me into expanding my knowledge into orchestrating music. And that is how I composed my very first song called “JOUJOU” that was recorded by the singer GRACE EVORA. Later on I composed another song called “SENTIMENTO LINDO”, which was recorded by singer named KINO CABRAL.

In pursuit of realizing my dream, I decided to immigrate to USA with help from NHONHO the founder of the band “KREATION”. He saw my potential and freely offered his studio for me to work and expand my knowledge. I began assisting ZIMAS who at that time worked at KSS (Kreation Sound Studios) right when ISIDORA RIBEIRO was recording her first album. I was granted the opportunity to produced and arrange my first project as a producer/engineer with singer ISIDORA RIBEIRO “NHA SONHO”. After that I started getting requests from other artists to work with them. Shortly after I was hired to record, produce arrange and engineer VARGAS, KIMBERLY, JUCEILA, ROME and DINO VEIGA’s projects. As my music began to expand it caught the ears of other artists like SANDRO CORREIA, (pakiela & controla) LILL JOHN, (I miss u so much). I also produced the first album for SANDRO’s (SOBA) “HISTORIAS DI AMOR”.

I have participated in most albums that are released in USA like STACY, DJEDJE, MITO, CALU BANA, PULONGA, PEPE BANA, ZERUI DEPINA, FORTUNATO, MENINO MANSU, JULOVE, DANILO, DOMINGOS “GERACON”, KABUKENTI, BIG JAY, EMA LOVE, NOAH ANDRADE (considered the greatest up and coming young Cape Verdean artist of this generation), LAVI MONTROND, CHRIS BARBOSA, SHAUDEH, KEITA, DJ DJOMPASS, ANA TEIXEIRA, CHICO & DAVID, CHANDINHO DEDE, and DANY DI DEDE. However I didn’t want to limit myself to USA so it started expanding my music overseas. I got the attention of other musicians and singers such as GRACE EVORA, who I produced a track on his album ROMANCE named JOUJOU, which was written and composed by me and later also produced the song KURTISON on his most recent album. I wrote and composed a track for KINO CABRAL named SENTIMENTO LINDO, and also produced an entire album for the singer NHONE LIMA, done work for singers like EUNICE, DINA MEDINA, ZE CARLOS, and more recently BETO DIAS, (nos amor tem futuro) [winner of the best CABOZOUK award at CVMA 2011 edition], ZE DELGADO, (jogo d’amor, labios de flor & dali dala) MIKA MENDES, (flor de vento & pode d’amor), DJODJE MARTA (nha musica & louca) and DJENIO SEMEDO (single not out yet).

I now know I’ve reached my dream because I’ve worked with musicians like MANU LIMA, PAULINO VIERA, KIM ALVES, GIL SEMEDO, CESARIA EVORA, ILDO LOBO, BANA, NANCY VIERIA, DJIM JOB, CALU MONTEIRO, BETO DIAS, GRACE EVORA, MORGADINHO, TOTINHO, MIRRI LOBO, CHICO SERRA, DUDU ARAUJO, ZE DELGADO, NOAH ANDRADE (amazing child prodigy) and so more. I am truly blessed to have worked with these artists. Currently I’m working on my first solo project, working on collaborations from several artists. So please keep following my journey because I’m sure it will keep growing. “MUSIC is not what I do it’s who I am ” I’ll keep creating good music to all my FANS and the people who really enjoys MUSIC …
