\u201cNasci ao som das ilhas e delas herdei o ritmo e o sentir.\u201d A m\u00fasica sempre esteve presente na minha vida: atrav\u00e9s de uma m\u00e3e que me ensinou a cantar e a dan\u00e7ar, de um piano que, desde os meus cinco anos, nos foi oferecido pelo meu pai, de uma casa cheia de irm\u00e3os e vida, e de uma pequena cidade alegre e musical chamada Mindelo, que me viu nascer a 18 de junho de 1956.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Muito cedo, ap\u00f3s uma estreia casual numa apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o teatral na minha escola, comecei a cantar com os mais conhecidos grupos musicais de Cabo Verde daquela \u00e9poca, incluindo Os Caites, West Side, A Voz de Cabo Verde, Ritmos Cabo-verdianos, Os Tubar\u00f5es, Bulimundo, entre outros.<\/p>\n
Realizei os meus estudos universit\u00e1rios em Cuba (1975-1980), onde tive a oportunidade de participar num festival universit\u00e1rio (obtendo o primeiro lugar). Posteriormente, vivi na Cidade do M\u00e9xico, onde participei em programas radiof\u00f3nicos cantando e acompanhando-me ao viol\u00e3o (1980-1984).<\/p>\n
Foi em Portugal, j\u00e1 a caminho de casa com o meu esposo e tr\u00eas filhos, que gravei o meu primeiro LP, intitulado \u201cMares do Sul\u201d, com produ\u00e7\u00e3o musical de Paulino Vieira e P\u00e9ricles Duarte (1988-1989).<\/p>\n
Seguiu-se o regresso a Cabo Verde e a integra\u00e7\u00e3o no grupo Simentera, com o qual gravei os \u00e1lbuns \u201cRaiz\u201d, \u201cBarro e Voz\u201d, \u201cSimentera en Serenata\u201d e \u201cTR’aditional\u201d. Paralelamente, lancei a solo o \u00e1lbum \u201cMenino das Ilhas\u201d, um CD para crian\u00e7as produzido tamb\u00e9m por Paulino Vieira, com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o da minha filha Sara, ent\u00e3o com 8 anos.<\/p>\n
Este CD cont\u00e9m dois temas da minha autoria que integram compila\u00e7\u00f5es da Putumayo: a can\u00e7\u00e3o \u201cBarco di Papel\u201d no CD African Playground<\/em> e a can\u00e7\u00e3o \u201cS\u00e3o Horas de Dormir\u201d no CD African Dreamland<\/em>.<\/p>\n No final dos anos 1990, gravei os \u00e1lbuns \u201cSentires\u201d, \u201cDe Cor a Som\u201d e \u201cVoz\u201d, os tr\u00eas produzidos por M\u00e1rio L\u00facio.<\/p>\n No meu quinquag\u00e9simo anivers\u00e1rio, lancei o \u00e1lbum \u201cAndante\u201d, uma compila\u00e7\u00e3o de temas gravados a solo e com o grupo Simentera.<\/p>\n Em 2004, editei o CD \u201cVoz\u201d com o selo holand\u00eas WorldConnection. Este trabalho, gravado apenas com guitarra e voz, foi considerado pela revista inglesa Songlines<\/em> como um dos 10 melhores CDs de 2004 no g\u00e9nero world music.<\/p>\n Em 2008, lancei \u201cGerassons\u201d, gravado com a minha filha Sara Alhinho, com composi\u00e7\u00f5es de ambas e produ\u00e7\u00e3o musical minha, de Kis\u00f3 Oliveira e Ricardo de Deus. Este \u00e1lbum representa para mim uma trilogia de sons, gera\u00e7\u00f5es e amor.<\/p>\n Mais tarde, lancei um EP intitulado \u201cMi Ma Nha San Jon\u201d, cujo tema \u201cBeju Furtado\u201d recebeu enorme aceita\u00e7\u00e3o e destaque por parte do p\u00fablico.<\/p>\n Por \u00faltimo, gravei e lancei, em parceria com a minha agente M\u00f3nica Jardim, o CD \u201cMornas ao Piano\u201d, cujo primeiro tema, \u201cMindel di M\u00e3e Auta\u201d, foi premiado como a melhor morna de 2016 nos Cabo Verde Music Awards (CVMA).<\/p>\n Apresentei-me em diversos palcos na Europa com o grupo Simentera e a solo, incluindo o Olympia de Paris, o New Morning, festivais de world music desde a Gr\u00e9cia at\u00e9 \u00e0 Noruega, o Performing Arts Center nos Estados Unidos, o Piccolo Regio em Turim (It\u00e1lia), al\u00e9m de pa\u00edses como Senegal, Maurit\u00e2nia, Brasil, Su\u00e9cia, B\u00e9lgica e Finl\u00e2ndia, entre outros.<\/p>\n A Sara, que come\u00e7ou muito cedo na m\u00fasica, realizou algumas tourn\u00e9es comigo na Europa, promovendo o \u00e1lbum \u201cGerassons\u201d em salas como De Doelen e Concertgebouw, na Holanda, Birdland e Concert Haus, na \u00c1ustria, Moods, na Su\u00ed\u00e7a, e Blue Inn, em It\u00e1lia.<\/p>\n Como compositora, tenho temas gravados nos meus CDs a solo e com o grupo Simentera. Entre eles est\u00e1 \u201cDia C’tchuva Bem\u201d, um dos meus temas mais conhecidos, que integra v\u00e1rias compila\u00e7\u00f5es e foi regravado por diversos artistas.<\/p>\n Ao longo da minha carreira, participei durante quatro anos no Festival Sete S\u00f3is Sete Luas, realizando concertos na It\u00e1lia, Espanha, Portugal e Cro\u00e1cia, a solo e com a Sete S\u00f3is Med Kriol Orquestra<\/em>, em conjunto com m\u00fasicos italianos, espanh\u00f3is, marroquinos e o portugu\u00eas Jos\u00e9 Barros, culminando na grava\u00e7\u00e3o de um CD coletivo.<\/p>\n De 2010 a 2013, integrei o projeto de teatro, dan\u00e7a e canto \u201cMoi et Mon Cheveu: Cabaret Capillaire\u201d, da companhia de teatro francesa La Part du Pauvre<\/em>, com espet\u00e1culos realizados em Cabo Verde e em diversas cidades francesas, al\u00e9m de participa\u00e7\u00f5es em festivais de teatro, como o de Marselha (julho de 2011) e o de Limoges (outubro de 2013).<\/p>\n Fui distinguida com duas condecora\u00e7\u00f5es: a medalha \u201cOrdem do Vulc\u00e3o\u201d e a medalha de Primeiro Grau, atribu\u00eddas, respetivamente, pelo ent\u00e3o Presidente da Rep\u00fablica de Cabo Verde, Comandante Pedro Pires, e pelo Primeiro-Ministro Ulisses Correia.<\/p>\n Como promotora cultural, fundei, em parceria com M\u00e1rio L\u00facio Sousa, o Quintal da M\u00fasica<\/em> em 2000, um espa\u00e7o cultural com grande impacto entre os jovens artistas da \u00e9poca. Este projeto, que durou tr\u00eas anos, organizou o primeiro festival de jazz de Cabo Verde, o Fesquintal de Jazz<\/em>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “I was born to the sound of the islands and inherited their rhythm and feeling.” Music has always been present in my life: through a mother who taught me to sing and dance, a piano that my father gifted us when I was five years old, a house full of siblings and life, and a small, joyful, and musical town called Mindelo, where I was born on June 18, 1956.<\/p>\n At a very young age, after a casual debut in a theatrical presentation at my school, I started singing with the most renowned musical groups of Cape Verde at that time, including Os Caites, West Side, A Voz de Cabo Verde, Ritmos Cabo-Verdianos, Os Tubar\u00f5es, Bulimundo, among others.<\/p>\n I pursued my university studies in Cuba (1975\u20131980), where I had the opportunity to participate in a university festival (winning first place). Later, I lived in Mexico City, where I participated in radio programs singing and accompanying myself on the guitar (1980\u20131984).<\/p>\n It was in Portugal, while on my way back home with my husband and three children, that I recorded my first LP, titled Mares do Sul<\/em>, with musical production by Paulino Vieira and P\u00e9ricles Duarte (1988\u20131989).<\/p>\n This was followed by my return to Cape Verde and my integration into the group Simentera, with whom I recorded the albums Raiz<\/em>, Barro e Voz<\/em>, Simentera en Serenata<\/em>, and TR’aditional<\/em>. At the same time, I released Menino das Ilhas<\/em> as a solo artist, a children’s album also produced by Paulino Vieira, with the participation of my daughter Sara, who was 8 years old at the time.<\/p>\n This album includes two songs of my own composition that are part of Putumayo compilations: the song \u201cBarco di Papel\u201d on the African Playground<\/em> CD and the song \u201cS\u00e3o Horas de Dormir\u201d on the African Dreamland<\/em> CD.<\/p>\n At the end of the 1990s, I recorded the albums Sentires<\/em>, De Cor a Som<\/em>, and Voz<\/em>, all three produced by M\u00e1rio L\u00facio.<\/p>\n On my 50th birthday, I released the album Andante<\/em>, a compilation of songs recorded both solo and with Simentera.<\/p>\n In 2004, I released the CD Voz<\/em> under the Dutch label WorldConnection. This album, recorded solely with guitar and voice, was considered by the English world music magazine Songlines<\/em> as one of the 10 best CDs of 2004.<\/p>\n In 2008, I released Gerassons<\/em>, recorded with my daughter Sara Alhinho, featuring compositions by both of us, with musical production by myself, Kis\u00f3 Oliveira, and Ricardo de Deus. This album represents, for me, a trilogy of sounds, generations, and love.<\/p>\n Later, I released an EP titled Mi Ma Nha San Jon<\/em>, whose song \u201cBeju Furtado\u201d received great acceptance and recognition from the public.<\/p>\n Most recently, in partnership with my manager M\u00f3nica Jardim, I recorded and released the CD Mornas ao Piano<\/em>, whose first track, \u201cMindel di M\u00e3e Auta,\u201d was awarded Best Morna of 2016 at the Cabo Verde Music Awards (CVMA).<\/p>\n I have performed on various stages across Europe with the group Simentera and as a solo artist, including the Olympia in Paris, New Morning, world music festivals from Greece to Norway, the Performing Arts Center in the United States, Piccolo Regio in Turin (Italy), as well as in countries like Senegal, Mauritania, Brazil, Sweden, Belgium, and Finland, among others.<\/p>\n Sara, who also began her musical journey at an early age, joined me on several tours in Europe, promoting the album Gerassons<\/em> in venues such as De Doelen and Concertgebouw in the Netherlands, Birdland and Concert Haus in Austria, Moods in Switzerland, and Blue Inn in Italy.<\/p>\n As a composer, I have songs recorded on my solo albums and with the group Simentera. Among them is \u201cDia C’tchuva Bem,\u201d one of my most well-known songs, included in several compilations and recorded by various artists.<\/p>\n Throughout my career, I participated for four years in the Sete S\u00f3is Sete Luas<\/em> Festival, performing concerts in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Croatia, both as a solo artist and as part of the Sete S\u00f3is Med Kriol Orquestra<\/em>, alongside Italian, Spanish, Moroccan, and Portuguese musicians, including Jos\u00e9 Barros. This collaboration resulted in a collectively recorded CD.<\/p>\n From 2010 to 2013, I was part of the theater, dance, and singing project Moi et Mon Cheveu: Cabaret Capillaire<\/em>, by the French theater company La Part du Pauvre<\/em>. The project staged performances in Cape Verde and various French cities, with appearances at theater festivals such as the Marseille Festival (July 2011) and the Limoges Festival (October 2013).<\/p>\n I have been honored with two decorations: the \u201cOrder of Volcano\u201d medal and the First Degree Medal, awarded by the former President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Commander Pedro Pires, and Prime Minister Ulisses Correia, respectively.<\/p>\n As a cultural promoter, I founded, together with M\u00e1rio L\u00facio Sousa, the Quintal da M\u00fasica<\/em> in 2000, a cultural space that had a significant impact on young artists at the time.
